This paper proposes an N+1-dimensional framework in which dark energy arises from the folding energy of a brane embedded in a higher-dimensional bulk spacetime. Folding energy is conceptualized as the combined contribution of elastic deformation, topological constraints, and quantum vacuum effects associated with the brane’s geometry and embedding.

Abstract

This paper proposes an N+1-dimensional framework in which dark energy arises from the folding energy of a brane embedded in a higher-dimensional bulk spacetime. Folding energy is conceptualized as the combined contribution of elastic deformation, topological constraints, and quantum vacuum effects associated with the brane’s geometry and embedding. The framework identifies the effective energy density arising from these contributions as a potential source of cosmic acceleration. An effective-action formulation is outlined to describe the gravitational influence and cosmological evolution of the proposed folding-energy component. Connections with the dark dimension scenario are explored, including the possibility that competing geometric and quantum contributions could stabilize an extra dimension at approximately the micrometer scale. This paper also considers whether eliminations among these influences could help explain the small observed dark energy density, while recognizing that a quantitative resolution of the cosmological constant problem requires further derivation. Potential observational sign include a time-dependent dark energy state, modifications to the growth of cosmic structure, changes in cosmic microwave background observables, and short-distance deviations from Newtonian gravity. Rather than presenting an empirically established mechanism, this paper develops a conceptual research framework linking higher-dimensional geometry with dynamical dark energy. Further mathematical specification, stability analysis, and quantitative comparison with cosmological observations are required to assess its physical viability and distinguish its predictions from those of standard cosmology.
