Abstract
Social media has emerged as a transformative force in shaping political engagement, particularly among youth populations worldwide. Platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok have not only altered the flow of political information but have also redefined the ways in which young people participate in civic and political life. This cross-cultural study investigates how social media influences youth political participation in diverse sociopolitical contexts. Using survey-based data, case study evidence, and comparative analysis across regions, the study highlights the dual role of social media as both an enabler of active citizenship and a potential source of misinformation. Findings suggest that while social media significantly enhances political awareness, mobilization, and activism, its impact varies by culture, political system, and media literacy levels. The study concludes that social media is a critical driver of youth engagement, but its effectiveness in fostering sustainable democratic participation depends on regulatory frameworks and digital literacy initiatives.
