Abstract

The biography text writing skills of Grade X students at MAS Al Washliyah Petatal Batu Bara still face challenges in text structure, linguistic conventions, and idea development. This study aims to describe students’ biography text writing skills before and after the implementation of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) assisted by Instagram Carousel and to examine differences in learning outcomes following the intervention. The study employed a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 24 Grade X-A students selected through simple random sampling at the class level. Data were collected through a biography writing test and analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired-samples t-test with SPSS version 32 at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed an increase in the mean score from 41.14 on the pretest to 76.18 on the posttest. The mean rubric score increased from 9.8750 to 18.2917. The paired-samples t-test yielded t(23) = -15.449, p < .001, with an absolute mean difference of 8.42 rubric-score points and an effect size of d_z = 3.15. The findings indicate a very substantial improvement following the implementation of PjBL assisted by Instagram Carousel. However, because the study used a single group without a control group, the results should be interpreted as evidence of change following the intervention rather than as conclusive experimental evidence of causality.
