Abstract
Women play very vital roles in the church and society at large. The growth and development of the society depends on the active participation of women in all sectors of the society. However, this active participation is not fully achieved due to some societal barriers from within the community and the church. In such scenarios there is a need to explore such untapped capabilities explore their impacts towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals. In this respect, this chapter is a discussion of how women in the Catholic Church are contributing towards the achievement of good health, gender equality and ensuring availability and sustainability management of water and sanitation for all. The chapter is guided by the following two objectives: First, an investigation of the effects of alcoholism on health and development among women in the Catholic Church in Kenya and Secondly, an exploration of how Catholic women in Kenya are fighting alcoholism and its effects through various practical measures. To achieve this, the study depended on information from scholarly review of various books, journals and other assorted online resources. The chapter is divided into subthemes based on the objectives above.
