Abstract
In an increasingly complex financial environment, young professionals often face the challenge of managing income, debt, and investment opportunities effectively. This research investigates the intricate relationship between financial literacy and investment decision-making among young professionals, viewed through the lens of behavioral finance. It explores how cognitive biases, heuristics, and emotional factors interplay with financial knowledge to shape investment behavior. The study is motivated by rising concerns about poor financial planning, low investment participation rates, and suboptimal portfolio choices among the younger workforce despite their access to education and technology. Using a mixed-method approach that combines structured questionnaires with in-depth case analysis, the research reveals that while financial literacy significantly influences decision-making quality, behavioral biases such as overconfidence, loss aversion, and herd behavior often override rational thinking. The data was gathered from 300 young professionals aged 25–35 across diverse sectors, including IT, finance, healthcare, and education. Results indicate that even financially literate individuals are not immune to cognitive pitfalls that distort their financial judgments. The case study further exemplifies how an educated professional with high financial awareness may still make flawed investment choices under psychological influences. The findings advocate for an integrative financial education framework that not only imparts technical knowledge but also trains individuals to recognize and manage behavioral biases. This study contributes to the existing literature by bridging the gap between financial literacy and behavioral finance, with practical implications for financial educators, policymakers, and fintech advisors aiming to foster responsible investment behavior among the youth.
